DIY Clay Facial Mask

With High.Witchery

Clays are mineral materials that are naturally created and derived by mother nature herself. Different clay types come from different parts of the world and are rich in different minerals. The most common minerals that clay is rich in are silica, alumina, magnesia, iron, potassium, sodium, and calcium.

While the minerals vary, what all clays have in common are their basic behavior, which is ion exchange.

Clays soak up impurities via this ion exchange, with water being the “activator”. This is why it is important to let the clay dry on your face before washing off. Clays have been used in beauty regimens for millenia.

Tips To Mix Your Mask

  • If you’re getting clumps, try pouring the clay into the water versus pouring water into the clay

  • Add the clay slowly instead of all at once

  • Always use plastic, ceramic, wood, or glass utensils to mix your clay. Using metal utensils will disrupt the ion exchange properties.

  • Let the paste sit for a few minutes in between mixing, this allows the mixture to fully absorb the water and create channels through the powder
