DIY Dog Food- MUSH!!

DIY Dog Food- MUSH!!

DIY DOG FOOD- WHAT WE LOVINGLY CALL “MUSH”

I can’t even lie to you- this recipe was born out of a need to feed my 4 dogs with my EBT- and I was getting tired of feeding them eggs and hotdogs LMFAO

This is our current recipe and I can imagine it will change and get updated as time goes on. I like to put a half cup of “mush” on top of the half cup of kibble we give them. We also hydrate the kibble with hot water just to be sure they are getting enough water while we're traveling so often.

A lot of canned goods can contain high amounts of salt which can be harmful for dogs. When possible, get No Salt Added cans or rinse off the veggies very well before adding them to your mush.

While it is easy to judge other dog mamas, it's not easy to be in the situation yourself where you're wondering how you're going to feed your kids. We were homeless Summer 2023 and all 4 of my dogs are rescue dogs who were strays. I think a bit of canned food that is considered “human food” is good for the soul and for the wallet. So, I hope you try this recipe, but if you dont think it's for your pups- I understand that too!

What You’ll Need:

-1 can cut green beans

-1 can mixed veggies

-1 can pinto beans

-1 cup rice (measure uncooked)

-1 pound ground beef

-1 can pink salmon or chub mackerel

-1 can sweet corn (optional)

Directions:

Cook your rice in a rice cooker with 2 cups of water and no added spices or salt. While this cooks, brown your ground beef- ALSO without any added oil, salt, or spices. Dogs CANNOT have black pepper.

In a large tupperware, combine the canned ingredients after rinsing the veggies that may have salt in them. Store in the fridge for up to 5 days and freeze portions for later. When microwaving, add a few tablespoons of hot water to keep the rice moist.

Let me know how your dogs like this! NOTE: whenever making changes to your dosg diet, there will be some changes to their bowel movements. Watch for diarrhea and if diarrhea lasts more than a day or two, stop feeding them mush ):
